Between February and April 2026, ASTOVOT established Environmental Clubs at Lycée Nyivémé and Collège Secondaire Zomayi in Kpalimé, Togo, as part of the LIVE-Ex project. The clubs were created to promote environmental education, eco-citizenship, and sustainable development, and to help young people become active environmental ambassadors within their schools and communities.
Over the implementation period, the clubs carried out a range of practical and educational activities.
Students took part in training sessions on waste basket production, learning to manufacture bins from palm leaf ribs and recycled materials. This work promoted waste management, recycling, creativity, and a sense of environmental responsibility. The clubs also monitored and maintained trees planted during earlier campaigns, watering and protecting them so that students could understand the value of long-term environmental stewardship. Alongside this, students ran awareness activities such as quizzes, debates, environmental days, and discussions on climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable living.
The project strengthened students’ environmental knowledge and practical skills. Participants developed a better understanding of waste management, recycling, and the importance of a clean and healthy school environment.
Beyond the technical skills, the initiative reinforced responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and community engagement. Many students went on to become active promoters of environmental protection at school and within their families.
A key challenge was maintaining regular participation during examination periods. To address this, the clubs adopted a flexible, participatory approach built on learning by doing, peer exchange, and interactive activities, which helped sustain motivation throughout the project.
