Since the inception of International Voluntary Service (IVS) projects in 1920, heritage has played a crucial role in local communities. IVS organizations have collaborated with diverse stakeholders, engaging both young and adult volunteers in safeguarding tangible and intangible heritage. This non-formal learning approach has expanded globally, demonstrating the value of disseminating expertise and values at an international level. Notably, the World Heritage Volunteers program, established in 2007 through a formal partnership between the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and CCIVS, has successfully executed 368 projects across 61 countries. Involving over 5000 volunteers, this initiative focuses on raising awareness and preserving cultural and natural heritage, particularly at UNESCO World Heritage sites.
