“We came as strangers, we left as a movement”

Training for Trainers · Magliano Sabina, Italy · 28 April – 5 May 2025

Young leaders from Palestine, Jordan, France, Germany and Italy spent seven days exploring the intersections of climate justice and human rights, discovering non-formal education methods, and designing workshops to bring home to their communities. In these videos, participants share what the training meant to them.

What happened during the week

The training followed a progressive learning path that began with team building and trust on the first day, moved into a deep dive on human rights and climate intersectionality on the second, and continued with hands-on sessions on non-formal education and facilitation throughout the following days. By the sixth day, participants were facilitating workshops they had designed themselves, testing their skills in real time and receiving feedback from their peers. The week closed with collective evaluation, storytelling, and planning for the road ahead.

Together, the group produced a Training Toolkit, a modular resource containing all session plans and methodologies, openly available for any youth organization to adapt and use under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC 4.0).

What comes next

These youth leaders are now heading back to their communities, where they will run local workshops and engage 120 young activists across six countries in conversations and action around climate and social justice. In January 2026, the group will reconvene for a participatory evaluation to assess impact and refine the toolkit based on what they have learned on the ground. This is only the beginning of a much longer journey.

Study visit in Haifa and Hebron

Palestine · 9–16 January 2026

Participants from across Europe joined partners in Palestine for a study visit on climate justice and human rights. They met local organisations, activists and communities in cities like Haifa and Hebron, gaining direct insight into everyday realities, and into the strength and resilience of people continuing their work despite ongoing challenges. For many, it became something far beyond a project.

“This study visit in Palestine was much more than a study visit. It was definitely the most intense and enriching volunteer project I have ever been involved in and I am so glad and grateful that I was able to come and to witness all of this. I left with a desire to speak out and share the voices of the people who welcomed us and guided us on this study visit, and I will remember their commitment, their strength, their resilience, and, despite everything, their hope.”
Cécilia, Solidarités Jeunesses
“Going to Palestine was not part of my plans for 2026, but I joined this project without hesitation when the opportunity arose. This experience was truly eye-opening and far beyond anything I had imagined from the media. More than a study visit, it was an intense and deeply enriching journey that changed my perspective. I left with a strong desire to share the voices of the people we met, and hopefully people will finally listen.”
Celia, staff member of Solidarités Jeunesses
“The study visit to Israel and Palestine was undoubtedly one of the most transformative Erasmus+ activities for everyone involved on behalf of IBG. First and foremost, we are extremely grateful to our friends and colleagues in Haifa and Hebron, who went above and beyond to make it possible for us to meet with the different incredible organisations, volunteers, locals, activists, professionals, researchers and academics. Listening to them, their experience and experiencing ourselves the local realities in the different communities like Nazareth, Umm El-Fahem, Ber Sheva, Al-Khalil, Al Naqab, Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Ramallah was such an impactful experience. Meeting people who, like us, are committed to social and climate justice and learning about and witnessing the real obstacles they have to face, both through legal and extra-legal means, and in particular through physical infrastructure and barriers, was as enlightening as it was terrifying and painful. This trip will leave a lasting impact and enhance many of our activities, especially in this year which has a special focus on climate justice and sustainability in our networks.”
