Study Visit in Haifa and Hebron, Palestine

As part of the ReAct Now! project, participants from across Europe joined partners in Palestine for a study visit on climate justice and human rights. Throughout the visit, participants met local organisations, activists, and communities in cities like Haifa and Hebron, gaining direct insight into everyday realities, but also the strength and resilience of people continuing their work despite ongoing challenges. For many, it became something far beyond a project.

This study visit in Palestine was much more than a study visit. It was definitely the most intense and enriching volunteer project I have ever been involved in and I am so glad and grateful that I was able to come and to witness all of this. I left with a desire to speak out and share the voices of the people who welcomed us and guided us on this study visit, and I will remember their commitment, their strength, their resilience, and, despite everything, their hope.
Going to Palestine was not part of my plans for 2026, but I joined this project without hesitation when the opportunity arose. This experience was truly eye-opening and far beyond anything I had imagined from the media. More than a study visit, it was an intense and deeply enriching journey that changed my perspective. I left with a strong desire to share the voices of the people we met, and hopefully people will finally listen.
The study visit to Israel and Palestine was undoubtedly one of the most transformative Erasmus+ activities for everyone involved on behalf of IBG. First and foremost, we are extremely grateful to our friends and colleagues in Haifa and Hebron, who went above and beyond to make it possible for us to meet with the different incredible organisations, volunteers, locals, activists, professionals, researchers and academics. Listening to them, their experience and experiencing ourselves the local realities in the different communities like Nazareth, Umm El-Fahem, Ber Sheva, Al-Khalil, Al Naqab, Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Ramallah was such an impactful experience. Meeting people who, like us, are committed to social and climate justice and learning about and witnessing the real obstacles they have to face, both through legal and extra-legal means, and in particular through physical infrastructure and barriers, was as enlightening as it was terrifying and painful. This trip will leave a lasting impact and enhance many of our activities, especially in this year which has a special focus on climate justice and sustainability in our networks.

Im Rahmen des Projekts ReAct Now! nahmen Teilnehmende aus ganz Europa gemeinsam mit Partnerorganisationen in Palästina an einer Studienreise zu Klimagerechtigkeit und Menschenrechten teil.
Während des Besuchs trafen die Teilnehmenden lokale Organisationen, Aktivist:innen und Gemeinschaften in Städten wie Haifa und Hebron und gewannen dabei direkte Einblicke in den Alltag vor Ort – aber auch in die Stärke und Widerstandsfähigkeit der Menschen, die ihre Arbeit trotz anhaltender Herausforderungen fortsetzen. Für viele wurde diese Erfahrung zu weit mehr als nur einem Projekt.

Diese Studienreise nach Palästina war weit mehr als nur ein Besuch. Es war ohne Zweifel das intensivste und bereicherndste Freiwilligenprojekt, an dem ich je teilgenommen habe, und ich bin sehr dankbar, dass ich dabei sein und all das miterleben konnte. Ich gehe mit dem Wunsch, die Stimmen der Menschen hörbar zu machen, die uns empfangen und durch diese Reise begleitet haben. Ich werde ihr Engagement, ihre Stärke, ihre Widerstandskraft und – trotz allem – ihre Hoffnung in Erinnerung behalten.
Eine Reise nach Palästina gehörte nicht zu meinen Plänen für 2026, aber ich habe mich ohne zu zögern diesem Projekt angeschlossen, als sich die Gelegenheit ergab. Diese Erfahrung war wirklich augenöffnend und ging weit über alles hinaus, was ich mir durch die Medien vorgestellt hatte. Mehr als eine Studienreise war es eine intensive und tief bereichernde Erfahrung, die meine Perspektive verändert hat. Ich nehme den starken Wunsch mit, die Stimmen der Menschen, denen wir begegnet sind, weiterzugeben – und hoffentlich wird ihnen endlich zugehört.
Die Studienreise nach Israel und Palästina war zweifellos eine der transformativsten Erasmus+-Aktivitäten für alle Beteiligten von IBG. Zunächst möchten wir unseren Freund:innen und Kolleg:innen in Haifa und Hebron unseren großen Dank aussprechen, die sich außerordentlich eingesetzt haben, um uns Begegnungen mit zahlreichen Organisationen, Freiwilligen, lokalen Akteur:innen, Aktivist:innen, Fachkräften, Forschenden und Akademiker:innen zu ermöglichen.
Ihnen zuzuhören und die lokalen Realitäten in Gemeinschaften wie Nazareth, Umm al-Fahm, Be’er Scheva, Al-Khalil, Al-Naqab, Bethlehem, Jerusalem und Ramallah selbst zu erleben, war eine äußerst prägende Erfahrung.
Menschen zu begegnen, die sich – wie wir – für soziale und klimatische Gerechtigkeit einsetzen, und gleichzeitig die realen Herausforderungen zu verstehen, denen sie gegenüberstehen – sowohl rechtlicher als auch außerrechtlicher Art sowie durch physische Infrastruktur und Barrieren – war gleichermaßen aufschlussreich, erschütternd und schmerzhaft. Diese Reise wird einen nachhaltigen Eindruck hinterlassen und viele unserer Aktivitäten weiter stärken, insbesondere in einem Jahr, das einen besonderen Fokus auf Klimagerechtigkeit und Nachhaltigkeit in unseren Netzwerken legt.

Dans le cadre du projet ReAct Now!, des participant·e·s de toute l’Europe ont rejoint des partenaires en Palestine pour une visite d’étude consacrée à la justice climatique et aux droits humains.
Au cours de cette visite, les participantes ont rencontré des organisations locales, des activistes et des communautés dans des villes comme Haïfa et Hébron, acquérant une compréhension directe des réalités du quotidien, mais aussi de la force et de la résilience des personnes qui poursuivent leur engagement malgré des défis constants. Pour beaucoup, cela a été bien plus qu’un simple projet.

Cette visite d’étude en Palestine a été bien plus qu’une simple visite. C’est sans aucun doute le projet de volontariat le plus intense et enrichissant auquel j’ai participé. Je suis profondément reconnaissante d’avoir pu vivre cette expérience et en être témoin. J’en repars avec l’envie de faire entendre les voix des personnes qui nous ont accueillis et guidés tout au long de cette visite. Je me souviendrai de leur engagement, de leur force, de leur résilience et, malgré tout, de leur espoir.
Se rendre en Palestine ne faisait pas partie de mes plans pour 2026, mais j’ai rejoint ce projet sans hésiter lorsque l’opportunité s’est présentée. Cette expérience a été une véritable révélation, bien au-delà de ce que j’avais pu imaginer à travers les médias. Plus qu’une visite d’étude, ce fut un voyage intense et profondément enrichissant qui a changé ma vision. Je repars avec une forte envie de partager les voix des personnes que nous avons rencontrées — et, espérons-le, que les gens commenceront enfin à écouter.
La visite d’étude en Israël et en Palestine a sans aucun doute été l’une des activités Erasmus+ les plus marquantes pour tous les participantes d’IBG. Avant tout, nous sommes extrêmement reconnaissants envers nos collègues et partenaires à Haïfa et Hébron, qui ont tout mis en œuvre pour nous permettre de rencontrer de nombreuses organisations, des volontaires, des habitantes, des activistes, des professionnelles, des chercheureuses et des universitaires. Écouter leurs expériences et découvrir nous-mêmes les réalités locales dans des communautés comme Nazareth, Umm El-Fahem, Beer Sheva, Al-Khalil, Al Naqab, Bethléem, Jérusalem et Ramallah a été profondément marquant.
Rencontrer des personnes engagées, comme nous, pour la justice sociale et climatique, et comprendre les obstacles réels auxquels elles font face — à la fois juridiques, extra-juridiques, ainsi que les barrières physiques et structurelles — a été à la fois éclairant, difficile et bouleversant. Ce voyage aura un impact durable et renforcera de nombreuses activités de notre réseau, notamment dans cette année dédiée à la justice climatique et à la durabilité.

Nell’ambito del progetto ReAct Now!, partecipanti provenienti da tutta Europa si sono uniti ai partner in Palestina per una visita di studio dedicata alla giustizia climatica e ai diritti umani.
Durante la visita, i/le partecipanti hanno incontrato organizzazioni locali, attivisti e comunità in città come Haifa e Hebron, acquisendo una comprensione diretta delle realtà quotidiane, ma anche della forza e della resilienza delle persone che continuano il loro lavoro nonostante le difficoltà costanti. Per molti, è stato molto più di un semplice progetto.

Questa visita di studio in Palestina è stata molto più di una semplice visita. È stato senza dubbio il progetto di volontariato più intenso e arricchente a cui abbia mai partecipato, e sono davvero grata di aver potuto vivere e testimoniare tutto questo. Me ne vado con il desiderio di dare voce alle persone che ci hanno accolto e guidato durante questa esperienza. Ricorderò il loro impegno, la loro forza, la loro resilienza e, nonostante tutto, la loro speranza.
Andare in Palestina non faceva parte dei miei piani per il 2026, ma ho aderito a questo progetto senza esitazione quando si è presentata l’opportunità. È stata un’esperienza davvero illuminante, ben oltre ciò che avevo immaginato dai media. Più che una visita di studio, è stato un viaggio intenso e profondamente arricchente che ha cambiato il mio punto di vista. Riparto con un forte desiderio di condividere le voci delle persone che abbiamo incontrato — e, si spera, che finalmente vengano ascoltate.
La visita di studio in Israele e Palestina è stata senza dubbio una delle attività Erasmus+ più trasformative per tutti i partecipanti di IBG. Innanzitutto, siamo estremamente grati ai nostri amici e colleghi a Haifa e Hebron, che si sono impegnati al massimo per permetterci di incontrare numerose organizzazioni, volontari, persone del posto, attivisti, professionisti, ricercatori e accademici.
Ascoltare le loro esperienze e vivere direttamente le realtà locali in comunità come Nazareth, Umm El-Fahem, Beer Sheva, Al-Khalil, Al Naqab, Betlemme, Gerusalemme e Ramallah è stato profondamente significativo.
Incontrare persone impegnate, come noi, per la giustizia sociale e climatica e comprendere gli ostacoli concreti che affrontano — sia legali che extra-legali, inclusi quelli legati alle infrastrutture e alle barriere fisiche — è stato allo stesso tempo illuminante, duro e toccante. Questo viaggio avrà un impatto duraturo e rafforzerà molte delle nostre attività, soprattutto in un anno in cui il focus è sulla giustizia climatica e la sostenibilità nelle nostre reti.

في إطار مشروع ReAct Now!، انضمّ مشاركون من مختلف أنحاء أوروبا إلى شركاء في فلسطين في زيارة دراسية ركّزت على العدالة المناخية وحقوق الإنسان.
خلال هذه الزيارة، التقى المشاركون بمنظمات محلية ونشطاء ومجتمعات في مدن مثل حيفا والخليل، واكتسبوا فهماً مباشراً للواقع اليومي، وكذلك لقوة وصمود الأشخاص الذين يواصلون عملهم رغم التحديات المستمرة. بالنسبة للكثيرين، كانت هذه التجربة أكثر بكثير من مجرد مشروع.

كانت هذه الزيارة الدراسية إلى فلسطين أكثر بكثير من مجرد زيارة. لقد كانت بلا شك أكثر تجربة تطوعية كثافة وإثراءً شاركت فيها على الإطلاق، وأنا ممتنة للغاية لأنني تمكنت من الحضور ومشاهدة كل ذلك. غادرت وأنا أحمل رغبة قوية في إيصال أصوات الأشخاص الذين رحبوا بنا ورافقونا خلال هذه الزيارة، وسأظل أتذكر التزامهم وقوتهم وصمودهم، ورغم كل شيء، أملهم.
لم يكن السفر إلى فلسطين ضمن خططي لعام 2026، لكنني انضممت إلى هذا المشروع دون تردد عندما أتيحت الفرصة. كانت تجربة فتحت عينيّ حقاً، وتجاوزت بكثير ما كنت أتخيله من خلال وسائل الإعلام. أكثر من مجرد زيارة دراسية، كانت رحلة مكثفة وعميقة غيّرت نظرتي للأمور. غادرت برغبة قوية في نقل أصوات الأشخاص الذين التقينا بهم، وآمل أن يبدأ الناس أخيراً بالاستماع.
كانت الزيارة الدراسية إلى إسرائيل وفلسطين بلا شك واحدة من أكثر أنشطة إيراسموس+ تأثيراً وتحولاً لجميع المشاركين من IBG. قبل كل شيء، نحن ممتنون للغاية لأصدقائنا وزملائنا في حيفا والخليل، الذين بذلوا جهداً كبيراً لتمكيننا من لقاء العديد من المنظمات والمتطوعين والسكان المحليين والنشطاء والمهنيين والباحثين والأكاديميين.
إن الاستماع إلى تجاربهم ومعايشة الواقع المحلي في مجتمعات مثل الناصرة، أم الفحم، بئر السبع، الخليل، النقب، بيت لحم، القدس ورام الله كانت تجربة مؤثرة للغاية.
لقد كان لقاء أشخاص ملتزمين، مثلنا، بالعدالة الاجتماعية والمناخية، وفهم التحديات الحقيقية التي يواجهونها — سواء كانت قانونية أو غير قانونية، بالإضافة إلى الحواجز المادية والبنية التحتية — أمراً كاشفاً وصعباً ومؤلماً في الوقت نفسه. ستترك هذه الرحلة أثراً دائماً وستعزز العديد من أنشطتنا، خاصة في هذا العام الذي يركز على العدالة المناخية والاستدامة ضمن شبكاتنا.
