M.I.L.E. – Measuring Impact of Long and Medium-Term Engagement
Is a key initiative to assess and enhance the impact of Long and Medium-Term Volunteering (LMTV) programmes. It focuses on critical aspects like decolonisation, inclusive narratives, and tools to measure LMTV impact, ensuring these programmes contribute meaningfully to personal growth, community empowerment, and social change. Co-financed by the European Youth Forum of the Council of Europe and the Erasmsus + programme.
The main aim of the project is to:
Assess and strengthen the impact of long and medium term volunteering (LMTV) programmes promoting inclusive dialogue, exchange and collaboration.
The specific objectives are:
1. To develop effective tools to better understand how LMTV affects the lives of young volunteers and the communities they are involved in;
2. to document stories and testimonials from LMT volunteers and host organisations to illustrate the tangible outcomes of LMTV programmes, thereby providing concrete evidence of their impact;
3. to apply a decolonisation perspective to LMTV programmes, to inform future initiatives and European policies in the field of international cooperation, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society. The activities of the Work Plan will involve:
• young volunteers (aged between 18 and 30 years);
• local communities hosting voluntary projects;
• trainers, experts on impact measurement, staff members and project coordinators of IVS organisations;
• members of the CCIVS Youth Committee
The Steps:
1) Online consultation phase to collect resources on decolonisation and impact measurement within the IVS movement (January 2025)
2) Kick-off Meeting (Online, 1 day, March 2025)
Objective:
The Kick-off Meeting initiates the project, involving CCIVS members, trainers, and global participants to ensure understanding of the project’s goals, resources, and expected outcomes.
3) Training Course on Impact Measurement and Decolonisation Tools (Bonn, Germany, 7-13 April 2025) Hosted by SCI Germany
Objective:
To build capacity among young activists and staff to effectively measure the impact of LMTV programmes using social research tools with a decolonial lens.
4) Impact Measurement in Action (May–October 2025)
Objective:
To apply the tools developed in the training course to assess the impact of LMTV programmes on both volunteers and host communities.
5) Presentation & Online Conference (November–December 2025)
Objective:
To disseminate the project’s results, highlight new decolonial narratives, and foster dialogue on improving LMTV programmes.
