Anita Venanzi

Anita Venanzi is Carrying on a legacy of democratic communist activism and community organizing, Anita’s journey with IVS started in 2013, when she joined a workcamp coordinator training organized by SCI Italy in their Città dell’Utopia (Utopia city). Since then she has coordinated and joined workcamps, and facilitated IVS-related workshops and presentations in various formal and informal settings in Italy, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Malaysia, Germany, the Netherlands and Thailand. After a BA in so-called “Asian Studies” and a Master’s in Intercultural Studies with a minor in Social Work, she is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Sociology in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. There she has been joyfully obsessing for the past six years about solidarity, International Voluntary Service, civil society, Orientalism, decolonial thinking and practice, critical sociology, intersectional feminism, and how to peacefully smash the imperialist, white supremacist capitalist patriarchy.
