In theory

Conflict transformation is a permanent feature of any voluntary service project since we consider that the notion of conflict forms part of every-day life. A voluntary service project brings together people from very different backgrounds. By putting them together, almost inevitably, we end up with smaller or bigger conflicts. Since a project is about everyone participating in the activities and sticking to the values of the organisations, people have to find ways to deal with conflicts. In this sense, a voluntary service project is not really a "conflict-avoiding" activity, but becomes in a way a conflict-generating activity (although the conflict part is in many cases very minor and hardly affects the atmosphere). The end objective is not to deny the difference, but exactly acknowledge its existence, overcome it and live with it. Several publications by CCIVS, as results of seminars and projects, have been produced on the topic.
